5 Card Stud Poker Rules
The game of 5-Card Stud is not as popular as 7-Stud, but it still has some advantages over 5-Draw since it presents opportunities in the way of bluffing and betting than the draw game. It has, after all, 5 rounds of bets and all but one of a player’s cards is showing to everyone else. If you can still bluff when everyone sees that much, you are truly the king of poker.
To start the game, there is an ante from everyone put in the pot. Then each player is dealt two cards; one is turned down (this is called the hole or pocket card) and one is face up. There is a round of betting after each card is dealt. The person with the lowest card showing at the table begins the bet - this is called the "bring-in." All others must Call, Raise, or Fold. No checking is allowed; you have to bet money to stay in.
Another card is dealt each player, again face up. In some games, the person with the highest hand, or highest card, starts this betting round, and the later rounds are also started by the highest hand. At the third round, bets are now double. Dealing continues one card at a time, until all have a hand of 1 pocket card and 4 visible cards. After the fifth betting round - which is right after the final dealt card - those players who have not folded turn up all their cards in a showdown, and the highest hand wins.
